West coast swing is a social dance, and in learning the basics, you'll meet new friends and become part of a large local community! If you already know some west coast swing, this is a great opportunity to grow your skills in both roles.
West Coast Swing is a fun, casual partner dance done to wide variety of music, from contemporary to lyrical to blues music. Rooted in Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing evolved in response to the music of the day. It can be done fast or slow, offering opportunities for improvisation and musical styling.
— Appropriate for beginner and novice level dancers
— Suitable for all ages
— Bring comfortable shoes; avoid a high heel shoe or heavy rubber soles
Beginner dancers will learn to lead and follow basic vocabulary of west coast swing. Novice west coast swing dancers will begin making the basics of west coast swing into habit and work on the details of west coast swing style. There will be optional extra practice time offered outside of class for students and alumni of this class where students can ask questions of the instructor and learn some bonus skills.
