FRONT PORCH ROOTS REVUE TO PLAY AT FIDDLER’S ROOST
WEDNESDAY JUNE 13
Front Porch Roots Revue will be playing a fan appreciation gig at the Fiddler’s Roost on Wednesday June 13.
The troupe is readying itself for a handful of gigs that include festivals and a Calgary Stampede date, and thought a great warm-up would be to play an intimate club date at Fiddler’s Roost a couple of days before playing The Centrefield Festival in St. Paul.
The line-up will include the core four of Front Porch, Ron Rault, Crawdad Cantera, Gord Matthews and Thom Moon. Ian Oscar, Karla Anderson and Bobby Cameron will also be front and centre for this show.
The Front Porch gig in St. Paul will find the band rolling through their most recent theme show, Classic Country Rock, so one set at Fiddler’s Roost will focus on the material from that show.
“Commander Cody, The Byrds, Linda Rondstadt, The Eagles, Waylon Jennings, Buffalo Springfield, and k.d. lang, and the reclines are just some of the sources we’re going to in this show,” says Ron Rault who has been with Front Porch since its inception ten years ago.
As for the rest of the Fiddler’s Roost show, material will come from the group’s two albums. Additional original material from Cameron who jumped back on the porch a few months ago for the 10th anniversary Front Porch show at Festival Place. Cameron and Matthews twin guitar attack was a highlight of the Festival Place concert, as was a surprise guest spot from Juno- winning Ontario bluesman Harrison Kennedy.
“We’ll also throw some classic blues into a set and maybe a tune or two from the Up On Cripple Creek show,” figures the harp playing blues singer Crawdad Cantera who has also been a mainstay of Front Porch since day one.
“This Classic Country-Rock show really works with a certain generation and we’re doing another edition of it at Festival Place in January. For that show John York who was in The Byrds during the Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde/Ballad of Easy Rider era is going to be our special guest, which should be a blast,” says show producer Peter North.
The Fiddler’s Roost show will start at 8:00 p.m. and as it is a Front Porch appreciation bash, it is a “pay what you can” affair.
Fiddler’s Roost is located at 7308 — 76 Avenue.
